How does this work; “separation makes the heart grow fonder”, but then again, “out of sight out of mind”?

it depends on the strength of the connection

if you are talking about love...it could be a test of the heartHow does this work; “separation makes the heart grow fonder”, but then again, “out of sight out of mind”?
Separation (absence) makes the heart grow fonder means that you will appreciate someone more if you are away from them for a while and realize how much they mean to you and that you miss them.

Out of sight, out of mind means that if you get something tempting out of your face (like that extra serving of dessert), then you won't give in to it as easily because you don't see it and hopefully will forget about it.How does this work; “separation makes the heart grow fonder”, but then again, “out of sight out of mind”?
out of sight... etc usually applies to items. An example would be when you are trying to lose weight, getting rid of the junk food.

Separation makes the heart....etc applies to people and what they mean is when you are away from people, you miss them more and tend to put aside their flaws because you miss them so much.
Almost all phrase/sayings have a contradictory phrase or saying, just use them when they suit your purpose, and don't look to them for relationship advice, or any advice for that matter, that's what Y! Answers is for! LOL :)
My heart does grow fonder when separated but that is more than likely because the person isn't around to remind me of how crazy the make me (out of sight out of mind).
guess it all depends on who you ask! If you ask someone truly moral the first is true! ask someone with creeping on their mind then the second is true!
dont think too hard.

these pearls of wisdom were not meant for such analyzing minds as yours.

take them for their face value and apply them to whatever you feel like.
The mice will play while that cat is away
