Can someone explain how this point system works?

the point system is a series of point that you receive for answering questions.

you can click on your current score to get more details

basically it is

2 points for answering questions

1 point for voting for a best answer

1 point for picking the best answer

-5 points for asking a question

3 points for picking out the best answer to your question

you are assigned a level based on the points you have, the higher the level then the more you get to do.Can someone explain how this point system works?
You ask a question (-5 points for you) and I answer (+2 points for me) and then you pick my answer as the best (+10 points for me)!Can someone explain how this point system works?

the higher the level and more questions u can answer and ask
The point system really is pretty simple.

1) You gain points for doing things like voting on answers, writing answers and voting on a Best Answer.

2) You lose points for asking a question (however, you do get 3 points back if you chose a best answer for your question).

3) There are 7 levels that corespond to the amount of points you have; each level is able to ask a certain number of questions or answer a certain number of questions and so on.

How does the scoring system work and what are the points worth?

To thank the Yahoo! Answers community for great answers, we give points for various actions. The points help you build your reputation on Yahoo! Answers and show the world what you have to offer. You need points to ask a question but you can quickly earn the points back by resolving your question and by giving an answer that is picked as best.

The points table linked below summarizes how many points you get for each of the different actions you take. The points allow the community to recognize how active and helpful you've been, and they give you another excuse to brag to your friends.

The levels help summarize your activity and determine the expanded Answers usage privileges you earned. The more points you accumulate, the higher your level, and the more privileges you get.
